Spring Elite Camp - Don't Miss Out on This Amazing Opportunity

Overview: The Pikes Peak Miners AAA Hockey Club is excited to offer an excellent opportunity for skill development with an elite programming atmosphere. The spring elite program will cater to age groups born in 2000 and older interested in playing Junior, Tier 1, Tier 2, Travel Hockey, or High School in 2015/2016 season.
Focus: To improve all individual skills on ice through drills designed to maximize skating and puck possession time for each individual.  Structured off-ice training at CSAHA’s Skill Development Center will improve the individual players strength, agility, stick skills, and overall general athleticism.

Miners Wrap Up 2014-2015 NAPHL Season in Troy, Michigan

The Pikes Peak Miners wrapped up their NAPHL season, with a fierce 3-1 record, but falling short in the semi-finals with a loss in a shootout.

The Miners kicked off the playoff weekend against the West Michigan Hounds. The Miners pounded the net with 60 shots scoring a whopping five goals in the first with Eubank (2), Norris (2), and  Zhidkikh  contributing. The second period Miners forward, Cooper Spears slid one by giving the Miners a 6-2 lead. The third period, with the Miners still going after the win, forward, JP Nolette put away the final goal for the Miners capturing a 7-4 win, giving Matty Taylor the win in net.

Saturday morning the Miners met up with the Minnesota Revolution, looking to give Erik Anderson, goal tender, a win. The 1-0 lead in the first came from Miners forward Colton Davis (Wheatly). The second period the Miners profited on their 17 shots with three goals by Dziezawiec, Zhidikikh and Parsley giving the Miners a 4-0 lead at the end of two. Following the ice make, the Miners hit the Revolution with five goals with forwards Paul Norris and JP Nolette giving two a piece and David Dziezawiec the fifth, closing out a whopping 9-1 win over the Revolution, and Erik Anderson allowing one goal for the win.

With Momentum on their side, the Miners faced the St. Louis selects for their third game of the weekend. First period, Luke Boose (Nolette, Dziezawiec) put up the only goal for either team, with a tough back and forth play. The second period the Miners stepped up the pace and put away three goals with contributions by Boose (Paradise), Eubank, Spears (Dziezawiec, Porter), giving the Miners a 4-0 lead heading into the third.  Following the ice make Miners defenseman David Dziezawiec put away two goals widening the margin to a 6-0 win over the St. Louis Selects and placing them in the first seed heading into the semi-finals on Sunday.

The semi-final game, Sunday, had the Miners facing the Arizona Bobcats. Striking first, the Bobcats quickly scored, until Miners defenseman David Dziezawiec scored to end the first period in a 1-1 tie. A tough second period for the Miners, the Arizona Bobcats came out to score two goals and shutting down the Miners in the second.  Following the ice make the Miners jumped on the Bobcats scoring two goals both by Miners forward JP Nolette, unassisted. The third period closed out tied 3-3 forcing the teams into a shootout. The shootout had the first four shooters unable to capitalize, until Bobcats put two away, closing out with the win, and giving Miners goalie Erik Anderson the shootout loss.

The Miners finished a strong 3-1 on the weekend and head home to finish up the season with one league game and state playoffs.

Miners Finish Strong at NAPHL Showcase in Troy, Michigan

With the final NAPHL showcase before the playoffs, the Pikes Peak Miners faced five teams to finish out their regular season.

First up on Friday morning, they faced the Minnesota Revolution. With goaltender Erik Anderson in net, the Miners struck first with a goal from Luke Boose (Spears, Parsley) closing out the first period with a 1-0 lead. The Revolution answered in the second period with two goals, but the Miner also put one in by Defenseman Austin Wheatly,(Spears). The game was tied up at 3 when forward Paul Norris buried one putting the teams in a shootout. The Miners prevailed in the shootout to win 4-3.

The second game on Friday, the Miners faced the St. Louis Selects. With a very quiet first period, both teams came to the board in the second with three goals by the Miners Parsley (Zhidikikh), Kowalski (Davis, Eubank), Gums (Davis, Parsley), giving the Miners a 3-0 lead at the end of the second. The third period the Miners and the Selects came in with a couple of goals, but the Miners were too much for the Selects as they finalized the game with a 5-2 win over the Selects and third period goals by Eubank (Nolette, Boose) and an empty net by Davis (Kowalski, Boose). Erik Anderson was awarded the win, holding strong in the net.

Erik Anderson faced a tough game Saturday facing the highly ranked Anaheim. Completely shutting down the Jr. Ducks, Anderson stood on his head until late in the third when the Jr. Ducks got one by. A quick 41 seconds later the Jr. Ducks struck again. With the final seconds left in the third, the Jr. Ducks dropped one in the empty net for the 3-0 win in a tightly matched game.

Taking on another highly ranked team, the Miners faced Omaha, and quickly let them know they were ready for competition. Scoring first, defenseman Luke Boose (Eubank, Paradise) produced the only goal for the Miners, leaving a 1-0 lead at the end of the first. Coming into the second both teams battled until mid way through the second when Omaha got one past Miners goalie, Matty Taylor. The second period stayed 1-1.

The third period had both teams putting up a goal a piece, Miners goal by Zhidikikh (Boose, Dziezawiec) and taking the game into a shootout.

Matty Taylor held strong, but the Miners failed to capitalize on the shootout goals and lost to Omaha 3-2.

The final game of the weekend, the Miners faced the California Titans,with both teams coming out on fire on the early Monday morning game slot. There was less than three minutes on the clock with Titans scoring first, but quickly responding is Miners forward Jake Eubank  (Porter, Boose) putting the game at a 1-1 tie into the second. Both goalies stopped every shot during the second period leaving it all quiet on the scoreboard for the second. The Miners and Titans continued to battle in the third, with Jake Eubank (Nolette) once again setting one in the goal for the Miners putting the teams in another shootout for the weekend. Coming up short, the Miners lost in the shootout to the Titans in a very evenly matched game.

The Miners will travel again to the Troy, Michigan where they will compete in the NAPHL final playoff showcase.

Miners Attend Fourth Showcase of the Season

The Pikes Peak Miners attended their fourth NAPHL showcase of the season in Blaine, Minnesota, a tough turn of events on the weekend.

Facing HC Dallas the first game of the weekend, the Miners and Dallas battled back and forth for two periods, with Miners only allowing one goal, but the third period turned and the Miners allowed three unanswered goals, losing a tight game 4-0.

Saturday was a two game day with the Miners facing the New Jersey Titans and the Little Philadelphia Flyers. Losing both games, made it a tough  day for the Miners, who continued to struggle to find the back of the net for goals. With opportunities in excess, the Miners headed into Sunday facing the Pursuit of Excellence.

An early game, the Miners and Pursuit of Excellence charged out with a lot of back and forth play, with POE jumping ahead 1-0 in the first. After battling through a very tight second period the Miners allowed two more goals, but forward Christian Gums (Arkaitx Edgren, David Dziezawiec) got one by POE goalie to tighten the game 3-1. No goals were scored in the back and forth third period, leaving the Miners with a tough 3-1 loss.

Monday morning, the first team at the rink, the Miners faced the number one ranked Madison Capitals, In a game that was anticipated to be lopsided, the Miners gave the Capitals something to think about. The Capitals jumped out with a two goal lead at the end of the first, but Miners defenseman David Dziezawiec, let the Capitals know the Miners were not done. DZ scored two goals within minutes of each other tightening up the scoreboard. The Capitals up 3-2, Pikes Peak Miners Dziezawiec found the back of the net for his hat trick on the game, and putting the game into a 3-3 tie. Madison responded with a goal, and upped the lead 4-3. Miners Head Coach Greg Vanover, pulled the goalie and the Miners battled to tie it up, only to come up short as the Capitals scored and empty net, and winning 5-3.

The Miners next showcase will be in Troy, Michigan in February.

 

Pikes Peak Miners Travel to Chicago for their second NAPHL Showcase

The Pikes Peak Miner's kicked off their five game weekend on Friday against the Pursuit of Excellence, and started off the weekend with forward, Jake Eubank, scoring an unassisted goal, giving the Miners a 1-0 lead. With only 8 seconds left in the first, Vlad Zhidikihk (assist Bever) quickly put one away, with the Miner's going into the locker room at the ice make up 2-0.  The 2nd period was a bit more intense, and POE coming to the net with a goal late in the second. The third period kept the teams quiet as the goaltenders shut down all shots, to end the game 2-1 in favor of the Miners, and the win to Miners goaltender, Matty Taylor.

The California Titans were the second game of the day on Friday for the Miners, and a tough one at that. Titans put up the first point, while the Miners answered back with an unassisted goal from forward JP Nolette. The Miners were shut down the remainder of the game and fell to the Titans.

Saturday, the Miners faced the Esmark Stars for their third game of the day, scoring one goal, Vlad Zhidikikh (Parsley, Medina), the Miner's with plenty of opportunities, couldn't close the gap, and fell to the Stars 4-1, with the loss to goaltender Erik Anderson.

With a single game Sunday and Monday, the Miners faced the San Jose Sharks, the lone goal by forward Paul Norris (Nolette, Eubank), wasn't enough as the Sharks sent three goals past Miner's goaltender Matty Taylor, losing 3-1 in a very tight match.

The final game on Monday, the Miners faced the Anaheim Jr. Ducks, which left the Miner's unable to score in the first, but came out quickly in the second period to tie the game 1-1 with a goal from Billy Kowalski (Paradise, Wheatly). The back and forth action was intense as the teams fought hard to the third where the Ducks moved ahead and won the game with an empty net goal late in the third. Miners goal tending was split Anderson/Taylor for the loss.

Pikes Peak Miners Head to Blaine, Minnesota for first NAPHL Showcase

The Pikes Peak Miners 18U AAA team headed to Blaine, Minnesota this past weekend to open their first showcase of the NAPHL season. The Miners came out of the gate firing, as they took on the Philadelphia Little Flyers at the Schwan's Super Rink. Philadelphia struck with the first goal, but the Miners answered back quickly with a goal from Davis (Norris), to finish out the first period 1-1. The second period was a tight back and forth game with only one goal scored by Miners forward Porter (Paradise), with the Miners headed to the locker room ahead 2-1 at the end of 2. The third period was a barrage of goals by the Miners with goals from Nolette (Linkov), Paradise and Booth to give the Miners a hefty 5-1 lead, with the Flyers getting one final in the third. 

The Miners second and third games both on Friday showed the Miners splitting the day. The Miners beat the Arizona Bobcats 5-3 with goals scored by Paradise (Eubank,Anderson), Gums (Bever, Porter), Eubank (Boose), Nolette (Zhidikikh, Eubank) with Spears rounding out the game with an unassisted goal. The Miners then faced an evening game against the Madison Capitols, dropping the game 3-1 with the only goal from forward Medina (Gums). 

Saturday the Miners faced fifth place Nationally ranked Chicago Mission, facing a tough but hard fought battle the Miners lost 0-4 for their only game of the day. The final day of the NAPHL Showcase had the Miners facing the HC Dallas team, and struggled to find the net. With the single goal in the game forward Jake Eubank (Zhidikikh), brought little relief to the 8-1 loss.

The Miners next NAPHL showcase will be held in Chicago in mid October, with local league games played vs. the Rocky Mountain RoughRiders.

Pikes Peak Miners Have a RoughRider Weekend

The Pikes Peak Miners met up with league opponents the Rocky Mountain RoughRiders on October 27th and 28th. Saturday night, both teams met at the Ice Centre at the Promenade in Westminster. The back and forth play proved to be a hard fought battle, leaving a 2-1 lead to the Pikes Peak Miners at the end of the first with Luke Boose (Christian Okpysh), scoring on the power play, and quickly putting up another goal by Miners forward, Christian Gums (Paul Norris, Vlad Zhidkikh).  The Miners came out in the second period ready, as Colton Davis struck an even strength goal (Billy Kowalski), leaving the Miners up 3-1. The Rough Riders answered back with two goals leaving the end of the second a 3-3 tie going into the ice make.

The third period the RoughRiders picked up two goals late in the third keeping the win for the first meeting of the season between the two teams. The Pikes Peak Miners fell a hard fought 5-3 with Erik Anderson in goal.

Sunday proved to be a tougher contest, as both teams came out to battle and created an exciting games for fans to watch. The RoughRiders scored first to get on the board with only 1:42  into the first, and closing out the first period in a tight 0-1 lead. But the Pikes Peak Miners answered fast and furious in the second by scoring two goals and leaving the Miners with the lead 2-1 with goals by Jake Eubank (Vlad Zhidkikh, Christian Gums) and burying a beauty was Billy Kowalski, short handed, (Christian Gums, Colton Davis), but with less than a minute left in the third, the RoughRiders came back to tie the game, and going into the ice make all tied up at 2.

Third period was a back and forth battle of the greens, and the RoughRiders found the back of the net late in the third to take the weekend and the 3-2 victory over the Miners.

Next up, the Pikes Peak Miners will face the Colorado Thunderbirds.

Miners Season Opener with Rampage Kicks Off 1-2

The Pikes Peak Miners 18U AAA team faced the Colorado Rampage 18U AAA team for a three game series opening up both teams season starts. 

Friday, the back and forth action was a tight battle by both teams, but ended with the Miners coming up just shy of the win with a 3-2 loss. Saturday proved to be a stronger day for the Miners as they hit the ice ready to face the Rampage and looking for some cross town rivalry action. The Miners and Rampage battled through three periods with the final in favor of the Miners with a 4-2 win.

Sunday, wrapped up the three game weekend with a back and forth battle early, but the Rampage came out strong in the 2nd and 3rd periods to tally a 6-1 win over the Miners.
